What You Should Know About Liposuction
Aug 19th, 2008 by Linda A. Lithony
Liposuction surgery is a procedure to remove excessive fat. It is perfect to contour certain areas of your body and to get in better shape. However, it is not a weight loss solution because the more fat you wish to remove the higher the risks and a possible skin or issue damage.
The best results are achieved when small fat deposits are removed in targeted areas of your body. Often you can’t get rid of some fat deposits although you are doing exercise and diet. Then liposuction is the perfect solution. Unfortunately it is a cosmetic surgery procedure and therefore not covered by the insurance.
Today liposuction is very safe. It is usually performed under local anesthesia and can last one hour or longer depending on the procedure used. After the surgery you will have to wear a body-compression garment for a while but you can go home very soon. Although liposuction prices are high, the surgery becomes increasingly popular.
Different surgeons have different prices for liposuction. It can start with a $1,000 or even a little less but usually you will pay a couple of thousand Dollars for an excellent liposuction surgery. You shouldn’t look at the costs too much because when the surgeon isn’t experienced and uses old procedures and equipment you can find yourself with a damaged body. It’s not necessary though to go to the most expensive surgeon in Manhattan to get the best possible treatment. There are great places in Europe in Asia for example where you get top notch surgery.
But there are more factors that influence pricing. Hospital fees, anesthesia and medications for example. The costs can add up quickly. If you can afford it then you should use an experienced plastic surgeon who uses the latest equipment and the latest procedure. This way you reduce the risks dramatically. Once something went wrong it doesn’t matter anymore that you have saved a few hundred Dollars.
If you consider a liposuction then you should ask for a laser liposuction, the latest in liposuction surgery. Instead of brutally removing the cells, the laser is melting the fat cells. The healing chances are much better because much less damage is caused. This technique is especially useful for high risk areas like the face, neck or other sensitive parts.
After the laser has destroyed the fat cells, the doctor has the choice to just leave the fat where it is where the body will just absorb it over the weeks or the surgeon can remove it immediately during the surgery. Laser liposuction usually takes less than an hour and you can go home thereafter.
If you look for a fast and pretty safe way to remove fat then laser liposuction is a great way to go. The best results can be expected when you don’t have too much fat stored. The ideal candidate does sports and wants to remove fat only in areas where exercise wasn’t successful.
