Weight Loss: Control Yourself When it Comes To Takeout Menus
Aug 13th, 2008 by Joel Riley
If you’re the average person on a diet, then you’ve experienced times where you fall off the diet wagon and succumb to the many temptations in your daily life. It’s all too easy to be tempted by advertisements of the juicy hamburgers so perfectly put together and just waiting for you to order them.
The ads are designed to suggest to us that we need a candy bar, we need that value meal, we need that ice cream, and we need that greasy, cheesy pizza. And if you aren’t careful you can blow your daily caloric allotment in one sitting. Oh the joys of advertising!
Sometimes it is not as easy as barricading yourself inside and never watching TV again; this isn’t a realistic solution to the situation. You have to be stronger than your cravings and steadfast to your commitment to your health
What you see isn’t really what you get - Keep this in mind. How often have we seen the image of the perfectly thick hamburger and ordered it - only to find that what you get is a smashed up mess? The temptation is in the perfection. Think not of the image, but what it will really look like when you get it. Most of the temptation will be gone.
Don’t be afraid to order your food the way you prefer it. After all you have gone to the trouble to load up in the car, drive to the restaurant and you should be able to get the food you want, you are the customer afterall.
If you use the drive-through, chances are you won’t be as tempted as you are if you go inside. There are sights, sounds and smells that act as a mental stimulation and encourage us to sit and gorge on food. If we drive through and come home and eat, chances are we probably aren’t going to even eat everything we bought.
Who can resist the smell of French fries? The mere mention is enough to kick start someone’s salivary glands and make the mouth water. How can you NOT order fries with that shake and burger? By using the drive through, that’s how.
You can also save yourself the extra temptation by using a delivery service. You only order what you want and aren’t tempted to veer towards something else. You only get so much food to and you can’t go back again and again.
If we can take little extra precautions we may avoid putting yourself in a position in which we could be tempted to cheat. It’s not easy to ignore all the food and goodies that we see thrown at us on a daily basis. It’s hard to be on a diet, but the all the hard work is worth it when you stick to your plan.
